Young Avengers #8!

Young Avengers #8 was entertaining but a bit bland.  This issue was basically the team jumping from world to world to world while chasing the bad guy looking for Billy’s twin brother Speed.  A couple of the worlds (dimensions) they visited were interesting but the team did not spend enough time there to develop the world.  Eventually they end up in the dimension where the evil mind controlling mother lived.  Some of the team got left behind and the rest of the team is working on a plan to save them.

Young Avengers #7!

Young Avengers #7 was where the writers play catch up to where they want the story to resume.  There is a lot of text and talking about what happened between the escape from the mother parasite and the now of the comic.  Prodigy finds the Young Avengers and asks for their help to find Speed.  The team makes a hole in time and space then they head to another dimension.  It was all interesting and well written but felt a bit like filler.

Young Avengers #6!

Young Avengers #6 the issue started awesome with two new young folks Speed and Prodigy.  We first meet Prodigy working “tech-support” but not the type of tech-support you would expect, what he does is give advice with problems for heroes and villains.  He helps with a Skrull surplus bomb and how to handle Elektra in a fight.  We then get introduced to Speed and his five minute work day – yes he is the speedster.  The two guys have lunch and sort of bond.  When they get back they find the office burgled by someone wearing Patriot’s uniform, the two guys stake out the office and confront the bad guy.   But the bad guy wins the fight somehow defeating Speed.  Prodigy tries to talk with the bad guy but this resolves nothing and leaves the reader with a clumsy cliffhanger.  Frankly I was hoping in this issue with a continuation of the previous story ark.  Not continuing the previous storyline left me kind of disappointed in this issue.

Young Avengers #5!!

Young Avengers #5 was good.  Loki feels guilty for abandoning the other young supers and in the end returns to the battle.  After displaying some cool looking magic allowing the good guys to do some smashing they escape to a deserted location to make some plans.  The plan appears to be stay away from crazy parasite mother from another dimension and become super heroes.  Then the comic ends rather dramatically as if the series was over which makes even less sense than any of the previous issues of this comic.

Young Avengers #4!!

Young Avengers #4 was a mid-fight issue but at least Hawkeye and Marvel Boy show up and rather dramatically save the group from the disco.   Marvel Boy’s parents arrive and the fight goes on air born and away from the city.  Loki finally talks Wiccan into giving him his powers.  Loki appears to run away leaving the group to fight the evil parental clones.

Young Avengers #3!!!!

Young Avengers #3 was good.  We got to see a quick fight with Loki’s father the Troll that ended when Miss America showed up.  But as soon as she ended one fight her guardians (parents?) show up wanting to talk.  It appears that along with Loki’s father Miss America’s guardians are also dead.  She allows Young Loki to get the group to safety.  A bit of story catch up occurs and then the Young Avengers are captured by the thing summoned from another world as a cliff hanger.  This was another good issue of the comic I hope the creative team manages to keep the story quality at this level for a while.

The Young Avengers #2!!

Young Avengers #2 and we are still in setup mode.  I don’t know why the writer decided to spend all that time on introducing the other characters if we are going to just be following these two around.  Though we do get to see this world’s version of the Avengers (apparently) and then the young lovers are saved by Loki.  This Loki is very entertaining and not nearly as evilly chaotic as his other forms.  I especially enjoy Loki’s insistence that Wiccan do something about his possibly offensive to Pagans’ name.  The three of them decide to do something about the evil unleashed on the world, but then for some reason decide to take Loki home to Asgard where they meet Loki’s father and as Wiccan says, “isn’t he dead?”  I guess you just cannot trust Frost Giants to remain dead.  Just to make sure it is clear I did enjoy reading this comic.

Young Avengers!

Young Avengers #1 – This was a well written story that re-introduces the characters for this book.  A lot happens and yet the story does not move much yet.  The characters have yet to meet up fully as a group.  I hope the quality of the writing continues at this level even as the story itself looks a bit traditional.  The young Loki is very entertaining.
