Dial H #15

Dial H #15 continues the fight against the Operator and Centipede.  Just a few of the good guys seem to be left and are continuing to lose while taking their fight to the bad guys.  I am not really sure I like this story.  Dial H is much more interesting as a fight back on Earth against low level villains using random low level heroes from the rather impressive back catalog of characters from the DC Universe.  So to have this all the result of a war that destroyed whole worlds killing billions and billions of living creatures is very much against the spirit of Dial H.  I keep buying the comic hoping this story line will end and something a little less depressing will show up – one can hope.

Dial H #14

Dial H #14 was very confusing.  The story makes no sense that suddenly the good guys are going from disaster world to disaster world fighting people convinced the main characters are vampires and destroyers of worlds.  I just think the creative team is just trying too hard.  After the chalk world story I was hoping the good weirdness of this comic would return and the comic would become good again.  I guess I was overly optimistic.

Dial H #13!!

Dial H #13 or the narrative of Open Window Man.  The group of Dial heroes from last issue has travelled to a world where all the people all the happening occurs as chalk drawings on a wall.  While the others train or try to figure out their next plan of action Open Window Man finds and talks to a child on the wall.  The child is never named but it turns out to be a re-telling of the Batman story or in this case the Open Window Man origin story.  Essentially this issue through almost no action catches us the readers up with what is actually going on in the comic.  The story makes a bit more sense now at least to me.  Now to see what happens next!

Dial H #12

Dial H #12 was confusing and seemed to go off in a totally different direction from where the story left off last month.  The repair creature goes off kind of randomly chasing dials while Roxie and Nelson fight with Centipede and the other guy hand to hand.  Then things get weird.  Suddenly there are more heroes and sidekicks that you could poke with a stick, they all end up back in the hidden Canadian military base where there are another bunch of dial users and a lot of people saying I’ll tell you all about it later.  The repair thing and Centipede get pushed back through the portal to the signalverse or wherever the dials come from.  Then someone points out that this was exactly what Centipede wanted as if it was a bad thing.  At this point I will say that the creative team for this comic has totally lost their way.

Dial H #11

Dial H #11 was a bit disappointing.  Nelson panics when he wakes up in bed with Roxie and he uses the dial just to get dressed.  He ends up with a real hero he gets the Flash and Nelson has trouble controlling the speed.  Meanwhile the Centipede stages a coup and opens a gate to wherever the dial owners live.  He gets someone powerful and starts chasing Nelson and Roxy around the world at the speed of the Flash.  The good guys end up in Sydney Australia where they are met by Centipede and a creature that is ripping a hole in the sky as if we were watching the Bleach anime.

Dial H #10

Dial H #10 was interesting the Hero as Glimpse escapes from the Canadian Government building.  Then  Nelson brings the Bristol Bloodhound with him.  The big reveal is that the reason the Canadian’s had  a problem with their dial was because to make it work you dialed S.I.D.E. for sidekick.  So that explains why they just could not get their dial to work without a Hero to provide direction to the sidekick.  Now the good guys have a Hero dial and a Sidekick dial they go out on patrol together Nelson takes the sidekick dial and becomes Copter.  Roxie takes the Hero Dial.  They have a few adventures in a montage with a very surprising ending.   The government agent Centipede fills the reader in on more background of the dial and Thomas Edison dealing with the Dial’s creators.  All in all this was a well written and interesting comic we have more story evolution and some more information on where and what is behind the Dials.

Dial H #7

Dial H #7 Tree Knight and I think the Dial is getting to Nelson as he likes the hero thing a bit too much at the moment; which is a big change from when this version of Dial H started.  Then we get the chance to see a random silly Hero Baffodil Host!  This happens because Roxie and Nelson are trying to find a dial that gets them a hero that can go underwater in a search for another dial or information on one.  The finally get a water breathing hero called the Planktonian.  They do find a temple and we get a nice little fight before they realized they need to head to Canada.  In an ongoing side story this issue we are then introduced to a new meta-human the Centipede.  It is at this point I need to mention that yes this comic is rather silly at times.

Dial H #6

Dial H #6 We start with Chief Mighty Arrow and a discussion of political correctness when going out as a random super.  It might be that Chief Mighty Arrow might be a tad racist if played as written.   During this dialog we learn more about Roxie and some of the supers she turned into when using the dial.  This was a character driven issue with a bit of back story thrown in to show what has been going on in this story.  I have to say it was a really interesting read, well done.

Dail H!

Dial H #5 where Nelson and Roxie finally meat.  They work to fix the dial and fight against the void.  It is a good story.  But I believe it has been so long since I read the previous issue that I will need to re-read everything again and hope it makes some sense.

Missing Dial H

I seem to have fallen behind with this comic, Dial H, and checking my collection I actually have missed issue six and seven.  I have issue eight and seem to have come into the story part way again.  It is an interesting story and I hope I can find the missing issues without spending a fortune.
