All New X-Men #14

All New X-Men #14 was entertaining I think the only reason I bought this issue was the cover art.  Unfortunately this cover has nothing to do with what happens inside, I might have missed the set up from the previous issue since at some point I said I would never buy this comic book again.  Anyway, Dark Phoenix rules!  There was actually a bit of interesting dialog and stuff going on with the original X-Men with Kitty Pride and Wolverine.  They were fighting a few new and old villains along with a bunch of Hydra that seemed to just be there to get beat up.  Having the Avengers show up went smother in the story telling this time.  Not a bad issue.

Uncanny X-Men #7!!

Uncanny X-Men #7 – I thought I stopped buying this comic but for some reason I picked up this issue (it was in the pile).  I do have to say, I always had a soft spot for Illyana Rasputin (Magik) from back in the old days with the limited series and being Colossus little sister.  This comic was interesting because Illyana had come to see Doctor Strange for help because she needs with the magical portion of her powers.  Apparently she has absorbed the entire dimension of Limbo into herself.  There is a bit of story with the Cyclops rebel group.  But in the end this is a story for Magik and it was good.

All New X-Men #12

All New X-Men #12 was really lame.  I am not sure how many more issues of this comic I grabbed before realizing the All New X-Men comic had totally jumped the shark.  Well beyond the whole time travel thing.  While it was cool and all to have Thor, Captain America, Havok, Rogue and the Scarlet Witch show up.  All we really had was the brothers Summers reunite out of time.  We had a reminder that for some reason the Scarlet Witch has not been properly punished for her crimes and she wants to be punished.  We also come to the time where only in an X-Man comic book would people still believe the whole good guys are criminals but really bad guys in disguise plot line.  It is a story line so old Stan Lee stopped using it because even he decided it was lame.  Especially since in Cable and X-Force comic Captain America, Rogue and Havok do not fall for the exact same plot device (This same week even!).  This comic had so much great potential with the old original X-Men meet their current lame assed selves.  But instead we just get yet another whiny X-Man comic.

X-Men #1

X-Men #1 – This is another X-Men issue number one, I assume they get a number one because the title is just X-Men and none of the other prefixes.  This book was sold as the all women / hot girl version of X-Men.  I don’t know a counterpoint to the DC comic Ame-Comi Girls – in which case at least the X-Women have their regular costumes and are not sexed up.  The story starts with Jubilee and a child heading to America and Xavier’s School the X-Men base.  Rogue, Storm and Kitty Pride had off to escort Jubilee to the school safely.  There of course is a problem and the X-Men have to save the train and passengers from a crash.  It turns out the spooky guy who has been following Jubilee was John Sublime an adversary of the X-Men and if the prologue was correct one of the oldest being in the universe.  He shows up at the school and surrenders, he wants help defeating his sister Areka Prime who may be worse than he is (or he just wants protection).  The story was good for a first issue.  I am not sure if I kept collecting issues of this comic if not I may just grab the collected trade paperback.

All New X-Men #11

All New X-Men #11 was truly really bad.  I’m sorry I kept buying this comic book series.  If I had wanted whiny spoiled stupid X-Men comic books I would just read the main line of X-books.  I liked this comic series because it was different.  But now it is just the same as all the other X-books.  Disappointed.

X-Treme X-Men #13 !!!

X-Treme X-Men #13 was the final issue of this run and rather disappointing since it was a middle comic of a larger story arc over a number of other X-Men related comic books.  The good guys do not win in the end it is just a cliff hanger to get you to buy a different comic book.  The transition was jarring from the end of last issue to this issue.  A lot of characters die or the aftermath of their death in another comic happened in this issue.  I am disappointed that the end of such a great comic book was treated so shabbily.  It was really the only good X-Men comic running right now.  I am so disappointed I am not going to track down the other issues to find out what happened or follow the story.  I did a little reading using online summaries and the story arc was rather disappointing and reviewed badly.  Sigh – one of the best versions of Wolverine and Hercules ever and they were wasted.

All New X-Men #10

All New X-Men #10 was a really lame issue.  The creative team took a really good setup and ruined it with yet more whiny moaning crap that drove me from reading the X-Men in the first place.  Seriously nothing happened in this issue but talking, even when the bad guys robbed and murdered across the country pretending to be the X-Men from olden days all that really happened was talking.  I’m very disappointed.

All New X-Men #9!

All New X-Men #9 was interesting with all the talking and talking about what was going on as if the writer was stalling.  It was rather obvious that the Times Square fight was in the Danger Room because we had already seen the X-men from the past fight well in a group.  It is not like they had fought bad guys in this series but they had fought people in their own past.  But there is some sloppy writing going on here and while I realize there will be some weirdness due to the time travel.  The lady whom Mystique breaks out of jail is suddenly with the current day X-men under crazy Cyclops as the cliff hanger?  I realize this could be a projection of the ladies power but still it is weird.  I am not even going to point out how the whole reason the X-men from the past came to the current day has been solved and not solved, the Beast was cured.  Yet the writers are still avoiding the whole save Scott Summers from himself plot – not counting the cliff hanger.  The entire comic feels like filler for the sake of filler and stretching out a clever idea way too far.

Wolverine #1

Wolverine #1! Starts with a half disintegrated Wolverine assuring the reader or a bystander not to worry he is a Super Hero.  He says this I assume because yet again Wolverine looks horrible.  But while Wolverine is trying to assure us that everything is ok a madman is killing innocent Coffee House visitors.  Lots and lots and lots of people die and then Wolverine gets off his ass and fails to save the day.  This comic has potential but seems more interested in killing innocent bystanders like some rabid terrorist than providing an interesting story.

A + X #5

A + X #5 Iron Fist and DOOP is the first story and it appears to be a rip-off of an old the Real Ghostbusters story.  DOOP sure looks acts and talks like Slimer.  The adventure was silly and slightly confused by the correct flow of time.  It was not a bad story it was just kind of lacking context beyond trying to make a generally serious character such as the Iron Fist look and sound silly.  We then get a Loki and Mister Sinister story which was very good.  The story was well written and paced.  Loki when used as play full chaos is so entertaining and not so much fun when he is being evil.  So getting to see him play some tricks and pretend to fall victim to Mister Sinister powers and technology was fun.

All New X-Men #8!!!

All New X-Men #8 was a good issue.  I was glad the Angel finally got some face time and better yet he got to do something with his future self.  The fight at Avengers Tower was great and Hydra needs help as attacking an empty Avengers Tower is just wimpy.  There are a number of great lines in this story including Captain America saying “Why are there two of you?” and even the Hulk has a quizzical look on his face.  Having Ice Man and Kitty Pride narrating the talk between the current Beast and Captain America was well done and amusing.  But having the original Scott Summers come out and give his little talk was great, though I am getting a bit worried about Jean Grey while she is learning all her new / old powers.  Overall this was a great issue!

Cable and X-Force #5 !!!

Cable and X-Force #5 was a good slice of life yet mostly filler issue.  We have the continued fallout from the previous saving of the world that no one will ever give the team credit for saving.  Cable has another vision and now they need to steal / find a spaceship.  I do like Dr. Nemesis and his battle with Forge escalating into giant homemade robot fight club was fun.   I may have to actually see where this goes next it will be horrible I am sure.  I was thinking the powers that be should have tied this into the Age of Ultron mega story what with the giant robots and Cable having visions.

Wolverine Max!

Wolverine Max #4 is disappointing in that most of the comic is Creed (Sabertooth) ranting about how Wolverine is evil and not a good guy.  I’m also confused that even though Creed knows Wolverine regenerates he thinks that somehow he could cause Wolverine permanent brain damage.  I am also going to repeat my statement that it is really lame and clichéd to have Wolverine, the guy with the best healing power ever, could have such a crappy memory.  At least the plot advanced and we now know who actually committed the act of terrorism in blowing up the 747 from the first issue.  I admit to rolling my eyes upon viewing the last splash page of the comic that advertised that next issue will be the “Final Showdown” between Wolverine and Sabertooth – which leads me to say really? All the other final showdowns were fake and this one is the real final showdown?  Maybe Wolverine will finally die and Marvel Comics (AKA Disney) will willingly lose all that money from pissed off Fanboys.  Oh well I can dream.  I will lay odds that Sabertooth dies (again) but will somehow return to life in some future comic book adventure. 

Uncanny X-Men #1

Uncanny X-Men #1 was surprisingly good for an X-Men book.  The whole do not reveal who was squealing on the mutant revolution was a bit corny it worked in the end.  I’m not really sure what to mention in detail but the comic was good, but it could be better if there was more focus on the team than just on Cyclops.  Not just that but I do not understand why some of this back story with the new team was not just used in this book instead of stealing pages from the Uncanny Avengers. 

X-Treme X-Men!

X-Treme X-men #9 was another very entertaining story. We have a Wizard of Oz (Gha-No-Shah) Xavier ruling a world of various mutant strains. The two Alison’s argue, Herc and Howlett flirt all and all a good story that advances the overall story arc. I like the whole Hercules and Wolverine are lovers, so not their normal storyline.

A + X !!

A+X #4 is still holding to the two stories one book part one is the Beast and Spider-Man and the second story is Captain America and Quentin Quire.  Planet of the Beasts was very good I would go so far as to say it a one of the best stories I have read in a long time.  It was funny and the two smart characters got to sound smart while doing their super thing.  I am sure they both appreciated the chance to not be mocked for having and using their brains.  The whole planet of the beasts was apparently lifted directly from the Planet of the Apes movies.  Spider-man got in some good quips; the storm moved along and ended in a park.  Good Stuff.  The second story is alright but the whole earn each other’s trust is a little old.  I do not even know who Quire is or where he has appeared or where he ends up at the end of the story.  The M.O.G.O.D.! were used well for entertainment and comic relief. 

Uncanny Avengers

Uncanny Avengers #3, well that sucked.  I’m sure the 10 year old me would have loved all the long winded whiny bitchy talking.  But seriously the Avengers did this story already back in their original issue number 2 or three I forget exactly which one and Don’t have access to that collection at the moment.  Seriously write something good for a change.  This comic has some great stars and guest stars and this is the best that can be produced?  Ick.

All New X-Men!

All New X-men #6 continues the saga and really I’m just glad Angel found a friend at least for a little while.  It was really just a bit of drama in the story much like a normal whiny X-men story.  Then again it is time for Mystique to appear – but that has been telegraphed a while now in the advertising.

The First X-Men

The First X-men #5 the end?  Well the end of the story arc anyway.  Everything ended in fire as they say.  But was not an un-expected ending because otherwise they would change that little bit of story cannon that Marvel cares about maintaining.

Cable and X-Force!

Cable and X-Force #3 is an all-around good issue with a strong story and nice art.  It is a little silly with the family drama and S.H.I.E.L.D. and all but in the end it is still and entertaining issue.
